An average american short form would take me about 5 minutes to complete and the long form could go up to 30 minutes if you had a lot of deductions that took a longer time to enter all the names and their numbers. For me it only takes about 30 minutes to do a return for myself and my wife who are both working and I am working over seas during many years which makes it much more complex. As long as you have all the tax information appropriate for your return handy you will never have a problem nor will it take very long to complete. In fact the process is so efficient that after the first year, no matter how complicated your tax return is, filling it in is simple and very quick. When you start your return on Turbo Tax the first time you will have to fill in most of your own personal information by typing it in, but from that point on in all of the following years when you start your return it will allow you to get that information from last years return automatically so it is filled in for you and at the same time it remembers every thing that you deducted before and makes sure that you don't forget about those same deductions in the current year. The feature I like most is the carry forward from last year's return to the current year.

I have not used any other tax software but I know from my experience with Turbo Tax that it would be pretty close to impossible to find a program that could give a better return or make it easier to fill out the return.
Once you get comfortable with doing your own taxes and know what you are going to need to do before the software even asks, you can switch to the forms method and eliminate the interview method to make it quicker than having to listen to all the possible write offs that are suggested during the interview method.
Turbo tax handles all the issues that may come up even if you are new to doing your own taxes because their interview method of asking questions about your particular situation makes sure that you get all the possible deductions for your best possible tax return. Because of the traveling and the foreign tax exclusion it became necessary for me to learn more than the average American about taxation issues in order to keep up with my particular situation as far as the IRS was concerned. Much of my career has been spent overseas in places like Korea and Saudi Arabia and even Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I have been doing my own taxes since 1964 when I got my first job and have learned a great deal about taxes over the years. Turbo tax bought it from them I believe and upgraded it a bit over time and now it is the most user friendly it can be in my opinion.
I have been buying this product for many years, even before it was sold by Turbo Tax I was using it but then it was done by Parsons Technology. A great piece of Tax software with a good price on eBay
